Today we continued working on your brochure project. It is due on Tuesday, emailed to me BEFORE (not at the beginning!) of class. Make sure to look through the requirements (listed in the section below from last class) and see that you have met each requirement to get the best grade possible. Remember that I am looking for AWESOME brochures that will be shared with all of ABP.

Typing test today in TypingMaster (Netiquette, 3 minutes). Today we covered how to use a web browser. We started a brochure project. You may choose a university or a Qatari organization and you will create a brochure about it. You will need to meet all of the objectives listed in this document - Objective List.docx. For this project, you will not be allowed to use any templates.
For the University brochure:
The audience will be other ABP students and high school students.
You must include admission requirements in a table, information on the university, the city, the dorms, degrees offered, student life, tuition costs.
Include anything else you can think of that would be of interest to your audience.
For the Qatari organization (charity):
The audience will be the English-speaking population of Qatar.
You must include how the organization got its name, what it does, how it helps people, how people can get involved in helping out, how it is funded.
Include anything else you can think of that would be of interest to your audience.

Today we finished the last four objectives in Unit E on tables using Word Unit E Objectives 5-8.pdf (Chicago Ad Budget). The PowerPoint for the unit is Word 2007 Unit E.ppt.

November 20, 2011 - Word Unit E - Tables
Today we did a typing test in TypingMaster (Legends of Abraham Lincoln, 3 minutes). We started Word Unit E on Tables in the Second Course textbook (the smaller one). We did the first four objectives (pages 105 - 113) using Word Unit E Objectives 1-4.pdf (Chicago Ad Budget) and started with a blank Word document. Make sure to name the file properly (please remember - NO HYPHENS in your name in the filename). Bring this completed to the next class. Today we started your college essay. You need to write the essay, print it out (double spaced), go to the English room to get it edited (have the instructor sign it!), make any changes, and submit it to me by Tuesday, Nov. 22. You must submit both the final draft and the edited version as well.

November 15, 2011 - Continue CV Project
Today we continued working on the CV project. You should be refining your content and working on finding a format that you are happy with. You should have turned in to me a printed version of your resume so I can review its contents. When I'm done with it, you will find it in the clear box on my door. Collect it and make the suggested changes. If you're not sure what I mean, please find me and ASK!! You should come with a completed version to the next class (Thursday). Today we started the CV Project. You are to create a CV or resume to be sent off to universities along with your applications. This is the sample provided by Mrs. Ellenore: RESUME Sample for ABP Students 2011.docx
Your resume must have all of this information at a minimum. You may choose to use a template or create your own format and style for your resume. You may search online for free templates to download if you prefer. Here are two other sample resumes a student received from TAMU-Q: CV1 sample from TAMU.PDF and CV2 sample from TAMU.PDF. Use these for content, not necessarily formats.

October 30, 2011 - Continue Unit D - Tables and Clip Art
We started with the Astronauts typing test (self-assessment) for 3 minutes. We continued unit D with a discussion of how to insert tables and clip art. We continued slides # 33 - 41 in the PowerPoint (Word 2007 Unit D.ppt). In class we started to complete pages Word 92 and 94 using the Footprints newsletter document.
Homework:
Finish Word pages 92-95 (Tables-ClipArt.docx) using the Footprints document. This should complete this document. - due Thursday, Nov 3.
October 27, 2011 - Continue Unit D - Adding and Editing Headers and Footers
Today we continued working through the concepts in Unit D and we learned how to add and edit headers and footers. We used slides #25 - 32 in the PowerPoint (Word 2007 Unit D.ppt). We continued working through the Footprints document by completing pages Word 88 and 90 in class.

October 25, 2011 - Continue Unit D - Page Breaks, Columns, Page Numbering, and Hyphenating
Today we worked through inserting page breaks (different from section breaks), formatting columns and column breaks, inserting automatic page numbering, and hyphenating text. We completed up to slide #24 in the PowerPoint
(Word 2007 Unit D.ppt). We continued working through the Footprints document.
October 23, 2011 - Start Unit D
Today we started Word Unit D on Formatting Documents. We discussed setting document margins, dividing a document into sections, and inserting page breaks. Using this PowerPoint (Word 2007 Unit D.ppt), we covered slides #1-16. The starting document is WD D-1.docx. Make sure to save the file using the new naming convention (click here if you forgot it).
Homework:
Using the WD D-1.docx document above, make the changes as instructed on pages Word 78, 80, and 82 (Margins-Sections-PageBreaks.docx for F) . Bring this completed document with you to the next class.

October 20, 2011 - Unit C Practice
Today we practiced tabs and formatting learned in Unit C to complete the Visual Workshop on page Word 76(Nina's Trackside.docx) and uses this starter document (WD C-6.docx).

October 18, 2011 - Finish Unit C - Borders/Shading and Citations/Endnotes/Footnotes/Bibliography

Today, we discussed indents and their uses as well as how to best use numbered lists and bulleted lists. We continued working with the "Last Minute Travel Deals" document and completed pages 60 and 62 with it.

October 13, 2011 - Continue Unit C - Themes and Tabs Review
Today we reviewed themes and tabs. We practiced more tabs in class and focused on the bar and decimal tabs.

Complete the Take Home Quiz. Format the header as we did in class with the Title "Tabs Pop Quiz" on the left, Your name on the right, and your student number below your name. Put your work in the main part of the document (not in the header!). When done, email the .docx file to me. Use the subject line: Tabs Pop Quiz. I will check the formatting symbols to be sure it is formatted correctly. Remember that you MAY NOT discuss this quiz with any human but you MAY use any book, websites, or videos to help you.
October 9, 2011 - Start Word Unit C
Today we started Unit C in Word on Formatting Text and Paragraphs. We discussed formatting with fonts, using the Format Painter, and changing line and paragraph spacing. October 6, 2011 - Finish Word Unit B and Practice
Today we finished our discussion of the editing features of Word and the final topic was preparing a document for distribution. Then class time was used to work on the Hobart Theatre Project. Please remember that this has to be submitted through SAM.

October 4, 2011 - Word Unit B - Editing
Today we completed more of our discussion of the editing features of Word using the PowerPoint slides already linked in the post below (Sept 29). Topics covered were checking spelling and grammar, research information, and adding hyperlinks.
We changed the Typing policy to the following:
Weekly test via www.typingtest.com on Sunday and I will record scores.
WHEN you can type more than 30 wpm (words per minute) with an accuracy of 90% or better for three weeks in a row, THEN you will no longer have the typing requirement of 2 hours per week.
However, if your test results for any week drop below the required time and accuracy, you will be required to complete the 2 hour requirement for that week.
September 27, 2011 - Practice Word Skills
Today we took a pop-quiz on Word Unit A. We also practiced the skills taught in this unit by completing the Visual Workshop on page Word 24 of the textbook.

September 25, 2011 - Word Processing Discussion
Today we discussed what word processing was and the different types of software available, both online and as an application. Visual Workshop Letter Instructions.pptx is the presentation.
Homework: Log in to SAM (sam2007.course.com) and go to My Assignments. Do the Word-Unit A-Training. Along the bottom of the Simulation window, you will notice the three different phases of each task in the list: Observe, Practice, and Apply. First you will observe how to do a task, then you will practice the task, then you will apply the task. Then you will move to the next question. SAM will keep track of your progress. This is due BEFORE the next class.
